PASTORS IN THE MAKING

In our last newsletter we shared with you how God had prepared Quang to preach in the Binh Chau Church until He provides a new pastor for us. Now we would like to introduce you to Khanh (Quang’s older brother). Khanh was one of the 40 children to attend our very first VBS in 2008 at the age of 12. He attended Children’s Church for several years and became one of our youth leaders. As a young man Khanh then moved to Saigon for more job opportunities (as most of the youth in rural areas like Binh Chau do). For the last 7 years he has worked for a large supermarket in a huge Japanese mall. Khanh started out as a stocker, then department manager, and now a store supervisor. He also travels around Vietnam with a team to remodel/open new locations. During all these years, Khanh has remained faithful in his walk with the Lord. He attended, and still does, a large government-approved church in Saigon. Khanh has always had a heart to serve the Lord and has been very involved in the young adult program at his church. He has taken many mission trips with a youth team within Vietnam. Khanh is now in his 2nd year of a 4-year program consisting of Theology and Bible classes.
We asked Khanh, if he could get the time off from his work, if he would be willing to preach one Sunday a month at the Binh Chau Church. He was very excited at the opportunity and accepted our invitation. Khanh has now preached twice at the church. His messages were excellent and well received by the congregation. In fact, one lady stated last Sunday God has provided us 2 pastors already in Quang and Khanh. What a blessing to see these 2 young men, who grew up in the Binh Chau Church, stayed true to their faith in Jesus through the years, and now returning to preach in the church they first accepted Christ and attended in their beginning walk with Him. Take joy in knowing your faithful prayers and support has, and still is, being used by our Heavenly Father to impact lives here in Vietnam for all eternity. To God be the glory!

2 GIVING OPPORTUNITIES

(1) We thank each of you who have already given to help us purchase new Bibles to be given out to new believers this year at our Christmas Outreaches. We are still in need of $800 in order to purchase 100 Bibles.

(2) In our last newsletter we detailed our need to replace our 1999 van with a new/newer van. As you plan your year-end giving, we ask you to prayerfully consider giving to our ministry (yours/ours) so we might meet this crucial need for the church.

If God puts it in your heart to help us purchase new Bibles or this much needed van for the church and orphanage, please donate online at our website, jesusinvietnam.com or mail your check to our home address.

“How can we thank God enough for you in return for all the joy we have in the presence of our God because of you.” I Thessalonians 3:9 (NIV)

CONSTRUCTION UPDATE

Construction on our 2nd orphanage/love house building continues to move forward at a fast pace. Exterior painting is being done and floor tile and wall tile installed. Here in Vietnam 1.8 meters from the floor up is tiled. Then the remaining wall will be painted. This makes it much easier to clean, especially with children living in the house. The dropped ceiling is starting to be installed as all the pipes and electrical wiring above the ceiling is now in place. Our contractor says the construction should be completed by the first week of November.

A SERVANT’S HEART

We have truly been blessed to have Loan as our housemother these last few years.
She was raised a Catholic, believed in Jesus intellectually, but not understanding He wanted a personal relationship with her. God gave Mai the opportunity to share the Gospel with Loan and she asked Jesus into her heart as her Lord and Savior. God has used Mai’s mentoring and the Bible studies we have daily with the children in our orphanage/love house over the years to do a wonderful work in Loan’s life. Besides doing a great job providing the physical needs (cooking, washing clothes, cleaning, etc.) for the children, she now leads them most of the time in their daily Bible reading and prayers. The last few weeks since Tu left we have taken over producing the weekly bulletins for Wednesday night Prayer Service, Saturday Children’s Church, and Sunday Worship to include assigning different people to participate in each service. Last month we asked Loan if Tu ever asked her to participate and she stated he never did. We asked her if she would like to be included in our rotating list of people willing to serve. Loan was so excited to be given this opportunity to serve. She first gave the opening prayer for our Wednesday Prayer Service and then the prayer for tithes/offerings at Sunday Worship. She did beautifully both times. Loan is another example how God is using your faithful prayers and support to change lives here in Vietnam. We give our Lord all the praise, honor, and glory! And, we thank you for making such a difference in people’s lives here in Vietnam.

“I will give thanks to you, Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonderful deeds. I will be glad and rejoice in you; I will sing the praises of your name, O Most High.”
Psalm 9:1-2 (NIV

PRAYER REQUEST

Please pray God will raise up a pastor to oversee the Binh Chau Church and continue to mentor/teach Quang. We truly believe Quang has the heart and understanding of God’s Word to someday be the pastor of the church.

We have contacted some pastors we know here in Vietnam to see if they know someone who might be inclined to come serve in Binh Chau over the next few months or longer as God directs. Please pray God will give us wisdom and discernment in our search for a new pastor.

Please lift Quang and Khanh up before our Lord as they take on added responsibilities in serving the church. Please pray for God to give Quang and Khanh each week a deeper spiritual understanding of His Word so they might grow in their ability to teach the congregation.

Please pray God will provide the funds to purchase a new/newer 12-seat van to meet the growing needs of the church.

We have asked you to pray for Lan for many months now as she fights several health issues (diabetic, high blood pressure, and heart problems). Lan has lost a lot of weight and is in a weakened state. Now her right leg has developed a nasty rash. The church provided funds to take Lan to the hospital in Ba Ria this morning. Please pray for Lan’s healing and God would give her peace knowing He is with her as she goes through this journey.

Please pray for the children in our orphanage/love house as they have started back to school. They are usually the only Christian in their class. Please pray God’s protection on them and they won’t be influenced by their worldly classmates. Please pray they will stand firm in their faith and influence their classmates for Jesus.

We are now starting preparations for our Christmas Outreaches. Please pray God will put it in the heart of each person in the congregation (young to older) to start praying about at least one friend/family for them to invite to hear of God’s love for them. Please pray God will raise up the many volunteers needed to prepare the church/church property to be ready for our Christmas Outreaches.

As construction of our 2nd orphanage/love house is completed, please pray God will fill it with hurting children in need of growing up in a loving Christian family environment where they will learn of His great love. mercy, and grace for them through His Son Jesus and His Holy Word.

We are discipling a lady from Tanh Linh (Thuan) who might be willing to open here home to a Bible study. She has come to Binh Chau twice now for several days at a time for Mai to share with her. God used Thuan to get many of the 51 people from Tanh Linh to attend our VBS Camp this year. Please pray as Thuan grows in her knowledge of the Lord, God will put a strong desire for her to open her home to share what she has learned with the new believers.

Please pray God will raise up a missionary/missionary couple to move to Tanh Linh to disciple all the new believers there and bring many more lost souls into His kingdom.

About This Site

Jesus in Vietnam Ministries, is a compassion ministry founded by Dennis and Mai Spencer. Vietnamese families suffer from deprivation, lacking sometimes even the necessities of life. In obedience to the many Scriptural commands to help the poor they are enabling families to survive in difficult circumstances. When shown mercy these families are very receptive to the Gospel.
