Box 54<\/p>\n<p>Cortaro, Arizona 85652-0054<\/p>\n<p>Email: jesusinvietnam@gmail.com<\/p>\n<h3>About the Spencer&#8217;s<\/p>\n<p><div id=\"attachment_73\" style=\"width: 210px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/jesusinvietnam.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/IMG_5664.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-73\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-73\" title=\"IMG_5664\" src=\"https:\/\/jesusinvietnam.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/IMG_5664-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/jesusinvietnam.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/IMG_5664-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/jesusinvietnam.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/IMG_5664-682x1024.jpg 682w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-73\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Dennis and Mai in Saigon, Vietnam.<\/p><\/div><\/h3>\n<p>The title of a recent book by Ravi Zaccharias captures the essence of Dennis  and Mai Spencer\u2019s life: <em>The Grand Weaver \u2013 How God Shapes us Through the  Events of Our Lives.<\/em> God has shaped their lives through a series of events  that would bury most people in despair and hopelessness.\u00a0 They lost three of  their four children &#8211; a son to suicide, the loss of a twin daughter born  prematurely and of an older daughter to cancer.\u00a0 They also suffered business and  financial reverses.\u00a0 But through it all their dependence on God and their love  for one another has grown.\u00a0 Out of it all has come a remarkable story of triumph  over the trials and tests of life.<\/p>\n<p>To follow the trail we have to go back to a troubled time \u2013 the late sixties  and the Vietnam War.\u00a0 Dennis was stationed with the US forces when he met Mai.\u00a0  They fell in love and were married.\u00a0 With his tour of duty over, Dennis left  Vietnam in 1971 and Mai followed soon after.\u00a0 Mai wondered if they\u2019d ever see  her family again and hoped they could eventually bring them to the United  States.<\/p>\n<p>As the years rolled by it became apparent that this would not happen.\u00a0  However travel restrictions to Vietnam were relaxed in 1988 making it possible  for Mai to return to Vietnam for a visit.\u00a0 It had been 17 years since she had  seen her family!\u00a0 Mai was shocked by the poverty and despair of the people.\u00a0 She  determined she would do what she could to help her family, building a house for  her mother and helping a destitute sister.<\/p>\n<p>A friend shared Christ with Mai in 1978 and gave her a Vietnamese New  Testament.\u00a0 Although she did not understand much that she read, she began to  pray to God when she had a problem.\u00a0 He often seemed to answer her prayer.\u00a0 As  God began to make known to Dennis and Mai His love for them in the heartaches of  life, Mai gave this same New Testament to a friend who planned to visit Vietnam  in 1993, to give to her family.\u00a0 As the New Testament made the rounds of her  family 35 became Christians in two years!\u00a0 God was working in Mai\u2019s heart and  through the Word He now was working in her families\u2019 hearts.<\/p>\n<div id=\"content\">\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/28203863?title=0&amp;byline=0&amp;portrait=0\" width=\"470\" height=\"264\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Her biggest request &#8211; that her family be allowed to come to the US, was not  answered.\u00a0 Now it seems clear why there was no answer.\u00a0 Through the witness of  Mai and her family a small group of Vietnamese Christians began to gather  together and form the beginnings of an indigenous church in that region.\u00a0 Dennis  also caught the vision for a church in her home village and began to join Mai in  more frequent visits.\u00a0 As Mai and Dennis made more visits they helped the people  and pastors grow a vision for a church in Binh Chau, Mai\u2019s home village.\u00a0 In 2006 they attended the dedication of the church building in Binh Chau.\u00a0 It was  the fulfillment of a vision implanted by the Lord in their hearts over 18 years  ago.\u00a0 Today it seems clear that God was calling them to a ministry that would  not have been possible thirty years ago.<\/p>\n<p>Eight years ago Dennis and Mai became a part of the CFC body and it has  enabled them to grow in their faith, especially through EE.\u00a0 One focus of their  ministry, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/jesusinvietnam.com\/\">Jesus in  Vietnam<\/a><\/strong>, is compassion.\u00a0\u00a0 Vietnamese families suffer from  deprivation, lacking sometimes even the necessities of life.\u00a0\u00a0 In obedience to  the many Scriptural commands to help the poor they are enabling families to  survive in difficult circumstances. When shown mercy these families are very  receptive to the Gospel.\u00a0 The Spencer\u2019s also focus on children, who are the  future church of Jesus Christ in Vietnam.<\/p>\n<p>Dennis and Mai are a living witness that even in the midst of great trials  and testing, God is shaping us for His work.\u00a0 Little did the friend know that  the little New Testament would travel around the world and dozens would come to  Christ.\u00a0 Surely it bears witness that \u201cGod\u2019s Word will not return to him  empty\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Jesus in Vietnam Ministries Dennis and Mai Spencer P.O.
