JESUS IN VIETNAM MINISTRIES

STAIRCASE PROFESSION

While in Saigon, Mai, Elder Nhan, and Kim went shopping for some frames in which to put the Binh Chau Book of Church Order in. They stopped at Lanh’s shop (picture above), which was actually located in a staircase of a building. Mai noticed a religious painting with incense burning below the picture. Mai asked Lanh who the people in the painting were supposed to be. Lanh answered Jesus, Mary, Joseph, and others. Mai then asked why she was burning the incense below the picture. Lanh stated she came from Hanoi and was Catholic. She stated when she came to Saigon the Catholic priests there told her she needed to burn incense for Jesus, Mary, Joseph, etc. Using scripture, Mai shared the truth about Jesus to Lanh. Lanh stated she never had anyone use the Bible to tell her about Jesus as the father (priest) never told her to read the Bible. God softened Lanh’s heart, revealed Himself to her, and she prayed to receive Jesus as her Lord and Savior right there in the staircase.  Jesus answered “I am the way, and the truth, and the light. No one comes to the Father except through me.”   John 14:6

PRAY FOR NHI

Last year Linh and her younger sister, Nhi, were dropped off at the Binh Chau church for VBS. On the evening of the last day of VBS most of the children had been picked up by their parents or in the process of being taken home by members of the church. However, Linh and Nhi’s mother had not come to pick them up yet. Nhi missed her mom and began to cry. Dennis picked her up to comfort her and she soon fell asleep in his arms. Earlier this year, Linh and Nhi’s mom left her husband to be with another man, leaving her husband to take care of the two girls. The father works and has no choice but to leave his two girls home during the day to look out for each other. A few days ago Nhi climbed up on a chair trying to reach something. Nhi fell off the chair breaking her upper arm between her shoulder and elbow. It was a nasty break with the bone breaking through her skin. Nhi was taken to the hospital in Ba Ria (about 30 minutes from Binh Chau). Her father is staying with her in the hospital while Linh is staying with Mai at the church for a few days until Nhi can come home. The picture above was taken of Linh and Nhi with Mai a couple of days before Nhi had her accident. Please lift Nhi up in your prayers that God will heal her arm completely. Please pray He will comfort her, Linh, and her father during this time and draw them closer to Him.

VBS UPDATE

Plans for the 2012 VBS are finalized with 135 children signed up (and sponsored) to attend this year. We thank God for all of you who are sponsoring and/or praying for these precious children. We will divide the children up into 3 different age groups to teach. We will then form a 4th group consisting of the non-believing teens. This will enable us to really focus on sharing the Gospel with this group. They will be taught from Genesis on who God is and then given the EE presentation. Please pray God will use this teaching to bring many of them to ask Jesus into their hearts.

MINISTRY NOTES

*The “In the Word” program is going great. Mai reports that many have already memorized up to 70 scriptures of the 100 they committed to memorize for the whole year. They recite some during Wednesday night Bible study ( picture above of Huyen, who is #1).

*Mai met with Hai (picture above) who graduates from Seminary in Saigon in about 4 months. Hai comes from several generations of pastors and was raised in a CMA church. He now attends a house church in Saigon. God has put it in his heart to be an evangelist and a church planter. Plus, he feels God is calling him to do this in smaller towns. He may be a possibility for a church plant in Tan Thang.

PRAYER REQUEST

*Please pray for protection and safety for all those attending the VBS and that God will use this VBS to touch the hearts of many children and their parents with His love and mercy.

*Please pray that God will grant Elder Nhan, Kim, and Elder Tu wisdom and strength to lead the church.

*Please pray for our nephew, Thao, who doctors say is dying from liver failure. May God heal, strengthen, and draw Thao close to Him.

*Please pray for Mai to have favor to share the Gospel with the neighbors around the Binh Chau church.

*Please pray that God will open the door for a daycare and orphanage for the Binh Chau church.

*Please pray that God will raise up a teacher for the smaller kids at Children’s Church.

 PRAISE REPORT

*We give God all the glory, praise, and honor as Mai’s visits with Caesar went very well and they are on board with us coming to help out with the VBS.

*We praise God that all 135 children were sponsored and funds were given for several bikes. Plus, a generous donation was given in order to take the children to the amusement park in Saigon on the third day of VBS.

*We praise God for providing the funds for a new sound system for the church
